The Best Country Pubs Near the A49 South of Hereford
The Nightmare Bar : Little Birch Herefordshire
This is an awesome place to have a pint. The bar is in a field, opposite what used to be the local pub in Little Birch. Little Birch is just over a mile from Much Birch, the home of The Queen Bee Cabin.
The Kilpeck Inn
Kilpeck Inn is just10 minutes drive from the Queen Bee Cabin, once you get on the A49. Take the first left turn into Tump Lane, turn left onto B4348 and almost immediately, turn right to Much Dewchurch. About half a mile past Much Dewchurch village, after the estate gatehouse, turn left towards Kilpeck. At the T junction near Kilpeck, turn left and the Inn is 150 yards on the left.

Pub at The Pilgrim Hotel
Nestled amongst Herefordshire’s rolling hills, pretty villages and diverse walks, The Pilgrim Hotel’s cosy pub offers that essential refreshment stop for you if you decide to go and have some quiet moments while enjoying a good drink. Located in Murch Birch and a few distance from The Queen Cabin is this substantially modernised 17th-century timber-framed inn with a spacious lounge and restaurant, The Axe and Cleaver . It’s another delightful place you might want to go for a drink. Their restaurant also serves homemade sandwiches with local produce and à la carte dishes.

Located up the road from the Queen Bee Cabin on the A49, just a few miles from Hereford. The Grafton Inn is comfortable and welcoming with a relaxed atmosphere you can visit while staying at our cabin. It has a large and well-kept garden overlooking the countryside. It offers a varied menu with an emphasis on grills and burgers and has a good selection of vegetarian dishes and special offers during the week. After a swift half at the grafton, you are ready to keep going on the A49 for a spot of shopping in Hereford.
New Harp Inn
New Harp Inn – Hoarwithy
Close to the River Wye and with a stream running through the garden, this friendly pub consists of a long, stone-floored bar with bright, modern decor, a village shop at one end and a large outdoor dining room. Home cooked meals range from sandwiches to full a la carte meals. The beers come from regional and local microbreweries. New Harp Inn is about 3 miles from The Queen Bee cabin.
The Yew Tree
Right next to A49 is this charming and delightfully old-fashioned drinking pub, The Yew Tree, the pub that also attracts canoeists and fishermen from the nearby River Wye. It is simply furnished and heated with a wood stove in winter. Petanque, billiards and quiz teams are based there. Beer from local or regional breweries is served straight from the cask behind the small central bar, and Gwatkins cider is also on tap (with additional local ciders in the summer).They also offer Takeaway service.
The Red Lion
The Red Lion Inn in Madley retains much of its olde world charm and characteristics. Visit to enjoy a drink in an oak panelled bar, and eat in the lounge or dining areas. There is also a secluded beer garden perfect for sunny days and light evenings. They have many local beverages on offer and source much of their food locally too. The inn is less than 20 minutes drive from The Queen Bee cabin.

The White Lion is a friendly pub right on the banks of the beautiful River Wye. About 15 minutes drive from The Queen Bee cabin., you can visit the pub for some nice local drink, relax and spend some time enjoying their beautiful location.
The Best Country Pubs Near the A49 North of Hereford
The Imperial Inn
The Imperial Inn, a beautiful timbered and traditional pub, is situated right in the heart of historic Hereford. It’s located about 7 miles from the queen bee cabin. It’s a perfect place to go and enjoy a diverse drink from cocktails to craft beers, local and national beers and ciders and over 150 types of gin. The pub is zoned with drinking areas, casual and celebratory dining with Sky Sports in some areas. At the back of the property is a large beer garden with both open and covered areas and an outside bar for those lazy summer days.
The Herdsman
The Herdsman
Established 1900, The Herdsman is one of the oldest country pubs in Herefordshire. Strategically located close to the Old market in Hereford and less than a quarter of a mile off the A49. It is strictly not a country pub, given that it is in the city of Hereford, but a nice place to have a cool pint nonetheless.
At less than 15 minutes drive from The Queen Bee Cabin, it could just be the place you want to visit if you enjoy local ales. If you drive to the Herdsman, a multistory car park is conveniently located opposite the pub. You can also get a bus from Much Birch, it will drop you right outside the Herdsman.
